Welcome
Opening Prayer by Cookie West
Special Guest Speaker Mayor Dominick Mucci recalled events from his past 36 years serving in government and the 220-year history of Steubenville. He handed out an Informational Brochure of the City’s Managerial form of municipal government. Steubenville is a full service city: Provides same services as larger cities, such as paid departments of police, fire, recreation, health, building, plumbing etc. We need to think regionally to survive, including county, state and federal government agencies. For example Brook-Hancock-Jefferson council working together to maximize the use of shared assets, like the Ohio river. He emphasized the need to capitalize on education and health care services as opportunities for growth. Steele industry, pottery, coal are not the only sources of income. It should not be surprising that after 220 years, we need to improve our aging infrastructure.
The following recent improvements have been made. After years of planning, Steubenville opened the Prime Time Center for its seniors. City council has been developing our business district street scape and district planning. For example, the north district is residential, central district offers essential services and the south district is poised for commercial development. In the west end, near Hollywood plaza, council added a 5th lane on Sunset between Bob Evans. The Hollywood lane addition was unpopular at the time but now the businesses benefit from the relief of congestion. It was worth the investment. Now the plaza is fully occupied.
On the other hand, Fort Steuben Mall is struggling. However, we recently added a roundabout on Lover’s Lane. We also repaved Route 7, Washington St, and Market Street.
Lawson Ave Bridge received essential repairs through state and federal funding. We paid for adding a Steubenville sign to encourage pride in our city. Council is planning to repave Adams Street because of the traffic. We built the Fort Steuben Park and now have free concerts all summer. We just celebrated LAWS Birthday Bash, July 4th, Frontier Days, Greek Festival, Dean Martin Festival. Council meets every Tuesday evening.

OVYN Network Agenda - February 20, 2017
Welcome--call to order 6:32pm
Opening Prayer
Mark Nelson – Steubenville Renewal and Testimony “Thank you everyone, born in moved to different states as a child and teen with his family to work with inner city poor- within men’s home nursing homes soup kitchens, have been mugged a few time and got around, 9th grade moved to WV and built homes, and 10th grade moved to Steubenville, where he went to Catholic Central after graduation he then went to Franciscan and began wood working with crosses in which he stayed in Steubenville manufacturing as Nelsons Fine Art, 2009 bought school and then began investing in the city, isolated themselves outside the city previously on the farm but then Teresa wanted to fix grand theater and started to go to the city council meetings and in 2011 he brought projects to the council to be fixed around the city but was rejected so he went to Bill Johnson and Johnson told him he had to make a difference in the city before state could be involve and he would have to become political involved therefore he became involved with the water and soil division to provide resources locally. “How do we have faith in our future?” Steubenville has a long history of revitalizing itself. In 1942 a book was written 12 against the underworld –the children are the future and building a place for them is what it about. Many are immigrants, many different reasons to come and bring with us standards and values, and this will be our children’s’, both the city of Steubenville and the university of Steubenville and they are what makes Steubenville exist, it shows that interaction between organizations is crucial, it encourages us to remake the city and solve the problems, full of prayer, beauty, love, the things that make us humans, all of us have to do our parts and we may ask when are they going to fix it and we are they and it is citizenship and we are missionaries, hold everyone accountable and sometimes it may be ugly or it may be creative but we’re all in it. The young generation to rebuild, many different shops, but we give it our all. “Briefly share about how you met your wife—Invited to go pray in front of an abortion clinic during the year 1987 and he went to stand to provide more time to talk to ladies before abortion to give them other options and there was light and dark and there was such an impact that he was never the same and the police were dragging people away. He usually videotaped or gave meals being underage but when he became 18 he was a part of Operation Rescue -largest peaceful demonstration in the US, launched prolife, now it’s a federal offense to stand in front, was sentenced to a year in solitary in Pittsburgh then traveled all over for prolife, officially met in the north side of Pittsburgh lock up, went to prison for another year, and became involved in jail ministry and worked with men, able to bring light. They ministered in funerals by collecting babies outs of dumpsters and to give the unborn names and show love. This is a conviction of what youth can do. He was 17 when he started, 18 when he was arrested reformed at 22. While he was charged with felonies he was not convicted of felonies.

Dave and his ministry:
Member of St. Paul’s Catholic church in Weirton. Social Media Advisory council. Have a very specific mission. Promote educate advocate media use. Appreciate the fact that social media is out there and can be positive. How can people use it in a positive way? What is really an eye opener? That this is the first time in our society that the kids know more about something than the adults and a lot more than adults. Trying to get their hands around it in a positive way.
Started a website, www.smacounsel.org
This is a free site and populates it as a user guide.
Helpful tips to stay out of trouble and how to navigate it. the other thing they have is they came across “irespect” cyber bully prevention program. Development by university of WV and can be taught in public schools. Want to come talk.
Irespect is geared to 4th-8th grade. Feels that is the most vulnerable time for kids. 80% of kid don’t realize they are being a cyber bully.  How to recognize that you bullying when you don’t think they are. How to inform the kids if they are or not. Most scary thing is the silence. Most parents and other kids don’t know and don’t share this. Recognize the techniques that are out there.  Also reinforce that ALL kids are important. When kids bully they focus on the weakness of the other. Need to realize the wholeness. They are more than this they are ________ (positive nouns).
Also encourage good digital users. Can’t take this away, taking the phone away isn’t what will work. Most important, if you are being bullied what to do how to get through it. comes in different flavors in 5 modules but can be more condensed. Adapt to the needs of the community. There is also a parent’s advisory module that can be separate or stay together; Kids & Parents. The kids aren’t going to come home saying they have been bullied so parents can see the signs without making more damage. These are the kinds of programs available. This is still fairly new and there are dedicated instructors to teach the youth you need to be on their level.
The other thing that is irespect is that you have to be prepared for emotional responses. Step delicately.
Question: Have a one-night event? Yes, can do this
When it is done in school a letter is sent to the parents to let them know what is being taught.  The new platforms are so organic. When you talk in social media there is different language. These are also things that are covered.
Possibility to have a parent night and youth night
